Dawn Wells

How many of you fuckers have ever jerked off to an episode of Gilligan’s Island? I know there are plenty of you fuckers that have, and it’s not because of that hung as fuck Gilligan, either! It’s because of one of two women: Ginger or Mary Ann.

We’re focusing on the latter today, and she portrayed by the fucking talented as hell Dawn Wells! She was so goddamn hot not only on the show but throughout her life, that you’re going to have to hide that boner of yours before you finish reading about her. So heed my advice and keep it the fuck here on ThePornDude, and learn all about the life and legacy of the one and only Dawn Wells!

Dawn Wells’ early life

Dawn Wells was born on October 1938 in Reno, Nevada, USA. The city was unique at the time for being known as the ‘divorce capital of the world.’ That wasn’t a fucking stretch, either.

Getting a divorce in the United States, and really, the world, was a pain in the fucking ass. But if you went to Reno, Nevada and stayed there for at least six weeks, you could get a divorce ASAP, no questions asked. The speediness of getting a divorce in Reno, Nevada was so lucrative to the area, that it became a substantial part of the city’s income.

Combined with the unrestricted approach to gambling the state had become notorious for, Dawn Wells grew up in a time and place that was unlike any other in North America. And with Las Vegas, Nevada being just a quick shot from Reno, Nevada, it’s clear that the fucking showbiz aspect of Reno and the state as a whole during this time definitely appealed to her. Dawn Wells graduated Reno High School, then went to Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.

Eventually, she transferred to the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. There, she graduated with a degree in theater and design. It was a far cry from her chemistry major!

Dawn Wells returned to Nevada, where she competed in the Miss Nevada pageant. She won the 1959 rendition, and went on to compete in Miss America 1960 later that year. Dawn Wells didn’t win, but it propelled her to becoming an actress nearly overnight.

Dawn Wells’ acting career begins

Though Dawn Wells didn’t win Miss America 1960, she still captured the attention of Hollywood. Within a year, Dawn Wells debuted on the television drama The Roaring 20’s where she was a regular cast member until the show ended in 1962. It’s fucking crazy, because in less than a year, she went from competing in a beauty pageant to becoming a series regular!

Fortunately, Dawn Wells already had theatrical talent so transitioning from a model to the small screen wasn’t a huge deal. It was apparent that figureheads in Hollywood had faith in Dawn Wells’ skills, too, as she secured role after role once she made her debut. She made appearances on television series like Wagon Train, 77 Sunset Strip, It’s a Man’s World, Hawaiian Eye, and many others.

She also starred in the film The New Interns which was a sequel to The Interns. Huh, what a fascinating name for a sequel. Still, Dawn Wells got high praise from this role, and it undoubtedly allowed her to get cast in the most iconic role of her career.

Dawn Wells’ iconic role

Dawn Wells was enjoying her success thus far, but nothing could prepare her for the role of a lifetime she was about to land! In 1964, Dawn Wells debuted as Mary Ann on the sitcom Gilligan’s Island. The pilot was filmed in Hawaii, and here’s a crazy fucking fact for you: on the final day of filming, President John. F. Kennedy was assassinated, which is why you see a flag at half mast in the show’s intro.

Gilligan’s Island was a fucking insane success for CBS. It received steady ratings throughout its three seasons. Gilligan’s Island was supposed to get a fourth season, but for some fucking reason, the show was cancelled despite promises that it would be renewed.

For many shows of that era, they would have been popular but forgotten to time. But like several television sitcoms of the era – such as The Andy Griffith Show – the episodes took on a culture of their own thanks to cable syndication throughout the 1970s and beyond. Eventually, Gilligan’s Island became more popular after its cancellation than it ever had been in its heyday.

One of the enduring questions that lasted far after the series ended was whether or not Gilligan wanted to fuck Mary Ann or Ginger; or both. It’s one debate that people are still having to this very day. But if you want to know what most people thought at the time, Dawn Wells (as Mary Ann) would get over 3,000 letters every week, while Tina Louise (who portrayed Ginger) got a little over 1,000 a week.

Dawn Wells’ role is one of the reasons why Gilligan’s Island continued to be so successful after its cancellation. It led to several made-for-TV films, including a film where they get rescued from the island, and wreck on it once again by the end of the film. Then they have to be rescued again in the sequel to that film, which follows the fucking fever dream of a TV movie The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan’s Island.

Dawn Wells refused to participate in any of the television films because of her issues with producers. But she did reprise her role as Mary Ann in the Gilligan’s Island spin-off cartoon series, Gilligan’s Planet in 1982. Which is as fucking terrible as it sounds.

Dawn Wells’ transitions to theater

After Gilligan’s Island, Dawn Wells left the small screen behind and went to Broadway instead. It was where she was trained originally, and likely felt the most comfortable. She had awesome success on Broadway, and played Jennie Malone in the second national tour of Neil Simon’s autobiographical play, Chapter Two. By 2010, Dawn Wells had starred in almost 100 theatrical productions.

Dawn Wells’ guest star career

In addition to a career in theater, Dawn Wells also appeared in several films in the mid-1970s, including The Town That Dreaded Sundown and Return to Boggy Creek. But her biggest source of longevity came with her guest appearances on sitcoms from the 1980s until her final appearance as Gumbalina Toothington in The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants in 2019.

Dawn Wells guest starred in a slew of sitcoms that read like a what’s what of classic late 20th century sitcoms. She guest starred in sitcoms like Growing Pains, ALF, Roseanne, and others. But Dawn Wells also guest starred on shows you’d never even think about seeing her on.

For example, Dawn Wells made a 2000 appearance on The Man Show which was synonymous with giant tittied beauties jumping on trampolines. Further, she was also on the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful, RuPaul’s Drag U, and many others. She has popped up in all kinds of shows over the decades, and it would tragically all come to an end on the tail-end of 2020.

Dawn Wells’ death and legacy

Dawn Wells unfortunately passed away from complications stemming from COVID-19 on December 30, 2020. Her last recording was a ‘Happy New Year’ message to her fans, scheduled to be released on New Year’s Day. Sad as it is, Dawn Wells had an extraordinary career that spanned over five decades.
