Maren Morris

If you’ve unfortunately listened to American country music in the last 10 years, there is probably one voice that has stood out among the inbred artists: Maren Morris. She’s not inbred, she actually has talent, and her songs don’t sound like someone butt fucking a mule while jangling a dinner bell. It also helps that she’s fucking fine as hell, too!

But before you learn more about Maren Morris’ music, why country music couldn’t hold her down, and why you’ll be masturbating to her soon enough, let’s learn about her origins. Don’t make up any goddamn excuses! Stay here on ThePornDude and learn everything you need to know about Maren Morris – or else!

Maren Morris sings from an early age

Maren Morris was born in April 1990 in Arlington, Texas, USA. Her parents owned (and, apparently, still do) a hair salon that Maren Morris worked at for much of her early life. It was also here that she discovered she had a talent for singing.

Maren Morris recalls that she sang a few country songs, and her father was so impressed that he encouraged her to pursue singing and performing. She followed his advice, and performed at a country music venue called Johnnie High’s. It’s a stage that’s reminiscent of the famous Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee, but on a smaller scale.

“That was my first time being on stage in front of an audience with people behind me, and I think that just changed my life,” said Maren Morris in an interview with the Dallas Observer newspaper in 2017. “It was like, ‘Oh my goodness, this is what I’m supposed to be doing.’ Even as a kid that sounds ridiculous, but it was like, ‘This is my calling.’”

At just the age of 11, Maren Morris had already figured out what in the hell she wanted to do with her life. The following year, her father bought her a guitar. Pretty soon, she was writing her own music, and even had her own backup band. Soon, Maren Morris began touring all around the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas, and then the entire state of Texas as a whole. Which, if you didn’t know it, is fucking huge!

“I couldn’t tell you all the ends of Texas I’ve seen,” said Maren Morris, again in an interview with the Dallas Observer in 2017. “All the places you didn’t know existed; I played all over.”

Maren Morris continued to go to public school throughout her youth. Her upbringing was typical of other youths in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with the only exception that she toured on the weekends:

“Music was always this weekend job that I had while the rest of my friends were going to slumber parties,” she continued in the same interview. “It never seemed abnormal that I was singing in bars on weekends because that’s just what I’d been doing for so long at that point.”

At the age of 15, Maren Morris flew from Texas to Los Angeles, California, USA, to attend what’s called a “Grammy Camp” sponsored by the Grammy Foundation. It’s the top award in music, so getting invited to attend such a camp was a fucking big deal to someone like Maren Morris. This is where she began to get an idea of how the entire music business worked.

Maren Morris releases her first albums

In the same year, Maren Morris released her first album, Walk On. It was self-funded by Maren Morris’ family, and the album featured mostly songs written by Maren Morris herself.

“We literally sold the furniture out of the house to finance her very first record,” said Maren Morris’ mom in an interview with WFAA in 2017. Two years later, in 2017, Maren Morris released her second album, All That It Takes.

With so much success behind her – and, seemingly much success to come - Maren Morris tried her luck by auditioning for some of the biggest TV music competitions on the air at that time. She tried out for The Voice, America’s Got Talent, American Idol, and even Nashville Star. Each of them rejected her, even though she already had proven her success. She didn’t let the rejections get her down, though.

“I was heartbroken at the time,” she mentioned in her 2017 interview with the Dallas Observer. “I thought, ‘I can’t even get onto one of these? What is wrong with me’ Now I see contestants on the show singing my songs and I feel vindicated.”

Maren Morris continued plucking forward, eventually joining a band called They Were Stars. She played the keyboard and sang until she graduated high school. Maren Morris then enrolled at the University of North Texas, but dropped out after just a semester. She wasn’t sure what to do with her life, and was at a bit of a crossroads.

When she dropped out of college, Maren Morris visited country star Kacey Musgraves, whom she had met while touring around Texas, at her home in Nashville, Tennessee: the country music capital of the fucking world. It became apparent to Maren Morris that it was time for her to spread her wings and try something new. She explains, yet again in her 2017 interview with the Dallas Observer:

“I love Texas, but I was sort of just getting into this cyclical touring, never really writing, and I just wanted to get out,” said Maren Morris. “[Kacey] opened that door and was like, ‘You should just come up here, you’ll love it. You love to write, you’ll learn so much from the songwriters up here.’ I could just already see myself there and really liking it.”

“I had to scare myself,” Maren Morris continued. “I didn’t have any of the strings of Texas attached, because [otherwise] I’d be seen forever as the 16-year-old who toured around Texas forever.”

Maren Morris moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where she began to network with other songwriters in the industry. Within a few months, she was signed to a four-year contract with Big Yellow Dog Music, writing hits for artists like Tim McGraw and Kelly Clarkson. But she wanted to continue performing and not just writing music for other artists.

She decided to use the song “My Church” she had written earlier in that year for herself. Later that year, Maren Morris released an EP titled Maren Morris that featured five self-written songs on Spotify. Within a month, they all had over 2 million listens. Later that year, the EP Maren Morris was re-released, but this time with “My Church” as the lead single.

Maren Morris has her breakout moment

Performing “My Church” was perhaps the best choice Maren Morris made in her professional career. She was signed to her first major label, Columbia Nashville that year, and “My Church” enjoyed tearing up the goddamn record charts throughout 2016. It peaked at number five on the Billboard country songs chart, and even won Maren Morris a Grammy for Best Country Solo Performance that same year.

In the summer of 2016, Maren Morris released her first album with a major record label entitled Hero. Later that year, she toured with country music superstar Keith Urban to promote her album. The following year, she toured all on her own and racked up additional Grammy wins and nominations.

Maren Morris leaves country music

Maren Morris enjoyed years of resounding success in the country music industry. This led to unique acts, such as DJs Zedd and Grey choosing Maren Morris to be the lead vocalist on their single “The Middle.” It was so fucking successful, that she performed the song with Taylor Swift during her Reputation Stadium Tour in her hometown of Arlington, Texas.

But her time as a country music star came to an end in 2023. Her reason was because she has nothing left to say in the country music industry. But in an interview with the Los Angeles Times in 2023, Maren Morris gives her real reason: because country music isn’t open to diversity.

“I thought I’d like to burn it [the country music industry] to the ground and start over,” said Maren Morris. “But it’s burning itself down without my help.”

What does the future hold for Maren Morris? The sky seems to be the fucking limit! Whatever she does, you’ll undoubtedly hear it in her music and songwriting on your favorite streaming platform!
