August Ames is one of those models whose performances are too amazing to be forgotten.

Ames was born Mercedes Grabowski on August 23, 1994, in Nova Scotia, Canada. Her parents were in the army, so they moved around a lot, living in different cities including some years living beside Canadian Forces Base, Petawawa. Ames was a cheerleader during her last year of high school.

In December 2017 Ames was scheduled to perform in a scene but she backed out after learning that her co-star had previously appeared in gay porn scenes. BS is all I can say. Do agents really not care about who they’re representing? #LAdirect I do my homework for my body.""

Her Tweet however did not have the desired effect she wanted, it instead took a dark turn. She was exposed to vicious backlash on social media, with many accusing her of being homophobic. One of the malicious tweets aimed at her read “The world is awaiting your apology or for you to swallow a cyanide pill. Either or we’ll take it”. While many people chastised her for her remarks, others felt that she had the right to choose who she wanted to work with based on their prior film history.

Even in the face of harsh criticism, Ames refused to backtrack on her previous assertion. The model tried to put her previous tweet in context when she further tweeted “NOT homophobic. Most girls don’t shoot with guys who have shot gay porn, for safety. That’s just how it is with me. I’m not putting my body at risk, I don’t know what they do in their private lives.""

Her clarification did however not appease the mob who bent on extracting an apology from her for being homophobic. She took to Twitter to once again assert her innocence, tweeting “How am I homophobic if I myself am attracted to women? Not wanting to have sex with gay men is not homophobic; they don’t want to have sex with me either so byeeeee"" Her final tweet on December 4th was “fuck y’all”.

On December 5, 2017, passersby in a park in Camarillo, California, noticed a body hanging from a rope that had been fashioned as a noose from one of the oak trees. The body was later revealed to be August Ames. Her death was subsequently confirmed to be a suicide by Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office.

Ames stated weeks before her death that she had a history of bipolar depressive disorder and dissociative identity disorder as a result of a terrible childhood. “Some days I'll be fine and if I'm not doing anything I'll get these awful flashbacks of my childhood and I get very depressed and I can't get out of bed and cancel my scenes for like a week or two”. It is presumed by many that the intense cyberbullying along with her struggle with mental illness drove her to the point of suicide.
